For Safety Checks 'Spider-Man' Musical Delayed to 2011
'Spider-Man' Musical Delayed to 2011 for Safety Checks

"Spider-Man" fans will have to wait until 2011 to see the superhero on Broadway - the musical's launch has been put back until January. "Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark", which features songs by stars and , was due to begin previews in New York on November 14 ahead of a December 21 opening.

But a series of onstage accidents has prompted a thorough review of safety procedures by state officials, who visited the set on Wednesday, November 3. Producers have now announced they have been forced to delay the show's opening amid the ongoing safety checks. Preview performances will now begin on November 28 and the musical's curtain will officially go up three weeks later than expected on January 11.

A statement from producer Michael Cohl reads, "Shows like ours, that embrace the challenge of opening on Broadway without an out-of-town tryout, often need to adjust their schedules along the way."
